Viking Workshop at Applecroft School

The day was informative and engaging for the children and adults. There was a good pace to the day, children had enough time to complete activities to feel successful yet it was broken up by snippets of information so they did not get board. There were lots of replica artifacts and hand held objects that the children could touch and use to see how they worked which helped them to understand what life may have been like for people living in that period. They also really enjoyed the battles.

The afternoon session engaged the children in a very different way, they had to think more like historians, becoming the detective to work out who’s objects were uncovered. I particularly liked how the items in each tray related to the objects they had used in the morning session which allowed them to be more successful when working out the what the fragments in the dig boxes were and who they belonged to.
